THE FARMER RESPONDS WITH THE RESULTS

From June 20 to July 10, the bollworm, one of the most serious pests of cotton, poses a serious threat to cotton. If this pest is not controlled during this period, it is not out of the question to lose up to 50-60 percent of the crop.

The cotton bollworm lays up to 200-300 eggs. The eggs hatch into larvae within 7-8 days and begin to damage the cotton at this time. First, it moves down to the boll, then to the small bolls and gradually to the large bolls, eating them dry out, which leads to their death. Usually, this harmful insect burrows into the ground in the winter and survives. The timely arrival of winter and the cold, freezing of the ground, causes the death of the bollworm. On the contrary, this year's winter did not come as expected. Therefore, it is impossible not to fight these "unscrupulous people" in a timely and effective manner.

Such a fight has already begun at the Ortasaroy Agroinvest farm in the Ortachirchik district of the Tashkent region. So far, the farmer is winning this fight. The reason is that the head of the farm, Abdulla Toshkhodjayev, is using Ifoda's pheromone traps.

Briefly about the farmer. Abdulla is a scientist agronomist. A man with 43 years of experience in agriculture. He has worked his way up from a simple field worker to the chairman of the Farmers' Council. He manages 158 hectares of land. 92 hectares of it are cotton, and the rest are grain. The Ortasaroy Agroinvest farm was founded in 2002. It has been cooperating with Ifoda since 2005.

– At the moment, the 3rd period of such pests has begun. This is the most dangerous period, – says A. Toshkhodjaev. – That is why we have set up pheromone traps against it. I admit, I used other pheromones before, and I did not trust the “Ifoda” pheromones very much. Last year, we used 2 similar traps as a test. And the result surprised us: it caught up to 15-17 cottonworms per day. Even now, it has been 3 days since we put these pheromones, and you can see that it “eats the heads” of 30-40 pests.

14 traps have been set up in this area of the farmer. It is recommended to change these traps every 3-4 days. Also, given that the bollworm spreads widely, it is advisable to carry out chemical treatment for effective control.

– We recommend several preparations against bollworm, – says Dilmurod Safarov, sales manager of Ifoda company for Tashkent region. – For this, it is necessary to apply ENTOVANT PRO at a rate of 250-300 grams per hectare, PROTEKT at a rate of 400-500 grams, and ENDOKSAMIKTIN at a rate of 500-600 grams per hectare.

The head of the farm “Ortasaroy Agroinvest” says that chemical treatment is not necessary yet, since they use pheromone traps. However, since the farmer responds with results, it is necessary to take the necessary measures against such pests in a timely manner.

According to the data, in 2020, the cotton bollworm will spread to 384.3 thousand hectares in the Republic, and it is predicted that the area where chemical treatment will be carried out will be 988.9 thousand hectares due to repeated processing.
