Excessive or insufficient watering negatively affects the expected cotton yield. In the final stage of cultivation, it is necessary to gradually reduce watering according to the boll-opening rate. For example, when 10 percent of cotton bolls are open, the water supply should also be reduced by 10 percent, and the final watering should be done when 25 percent of the bolls are open.

For cotton, which grows 1.5–2 cm per day, weekly growth of 10–14 cm indicates proper watering and an increase in yield. In traditional irrigation methods, measuring and monitoring the amount of water provided to the crop is impossible; however, with the drip irrigation system, the amount of water supplied to the crop is measured, monitored, and regulated by stations installed within the field. This helps maintain the optimal ratio between plant height and the number of flower buds.
